An enchanting estate in Upstate New York that has 160 acres of land and a residence constructed in 1775 is asking $15,000,000. The property, dubbed White Bridge Farm, is located in Old Chattam, a historic hamlet in Columbia County. In addition to the 18th-century home, which has been renovated but maintains some original detail, the farm includes multiple converted barns, horse stables, and a stunning pool and pool house, all surrounded by a landscape that looks like it was pulled from the pages of a storybook.
The property greets guests with an original restored iron main gate, which opens onto a long winding path up to the main home. Tucked away in lush landscape, gardens, streams, and three miles of walking and riding trails, the estate feels otherworldly.
Constructed in 1775 and since renovated, the main home boasts incredible beamed double-height ceilings and wide-plank hardwood floors. The residence contains three bedrooms, four full baths, and formal living and dining rooms, both of which have wood-burning fireplaces.
The main bedroom, along with an office and mudroom, is also located on the first floor. On the second level, there’s a sitting room and two en-suite bedrooms, both drenched in sunlight.
The property features a “barn complex,” which includes a courtyard with two guest suites that are flanked by two barns, as the listing describes. On the main level, there’s the “Bridle Suite,” a living area created with original stall walls to help define rooms in the open-concept suite.
Above this suite is the “Hayloft Suite,” a bright space with three bedrooms, dining, and a lounging terrace.
The horse barn has original cobblestone floors, with restored stalls that have been decorated as living spaces. One of the stalls has been transformed into a serene bathroom, tub and all, another with couches and a rocking chair. There’s even a hammock tied up. The upper level of the barn features open space, with gorgeous original beams and intact stalls.
The “Gathering Barn” was completely restored with soaring ceilings and all original beams. Intact stalls originally for hunting dogs are decorated as living spaces and grand open spaces for gathering. Attached is a four bay garage with original barn doors, radiant floors, and custom storage.
It’s difficult to pick just one highlight of the property, but it might just be the custom gunite pool and pool house. Immersed in sunlight thanks to super tall ceilings with skylights, the pool house is large enough to be the main house. The kitchen is fully equipped, there’s plenty of room to relax and entertain, and beautiful French doors lead to the immaculate pool area, which has bluestone decking and lots of plantings.
