The charming West Village townhouse that was once home to Hilary Swank is back on the market for $10.995 million (h/t Curbed). Swank and her then-husband Chad Lowe bought the four-story property at 33 Charles Street for $3.9 million in 2002 and sold it four years later for $8.25 million, a significant profit. The current owner is Harry A. Lawton III, the president of Macy’s, who closed on the home in 2017 for $10.5 million, just under the current asking price.
Built in 1899 and designated as part of the Greenwich Village Historic District in 1969, the interior has been renovated to meld the original elements with a more modern style. On the parlor floor, a south-facing formal living room features a gas fireplace, restored hardwood floors, and 11-foot ceilings. An adjacent library is lined with built-in bookshelves, another fireplace, and dramatic glass and steel casement doors that open onto a terrace with stairs going down to the garden.
The kitchen and a dining area are on the garden level. Limestone floors and sleek custom cabinets define the space, which is outfitted with a six-burner cooktop, two ovens, a double SubZero fridge, two dishwashers, and two pantries. The kitchen opens directly onto the ivy-covered rear garden.
A master suite takes over the entire third floor, including a luxurious en-suite bathroom and a spacious dressing room. There are gas fireplaces in both the master bedroom and bathroom. Two more bedrooms, a guest suite, and another full bathroom round out the package on the fourth floor.
Though not pictured, the finished basement includes a temperature-controlled wine cellar, laundry room, home gym, and additional storage.
