Actress Arlene Dahl–who achieved fame in the 1950s for her roles in Journey to the Center of the Earth, Slightly Scarlet, and Three Little Words–and her husband, renowned perfume bottle designer Marc Rosen, bought and restored this beautiful upstate Italianate Victorian 40 years ago. After decades of hosting many star-studded events at the home, including their son Lorenzo Lamas’ wedding and an 80th birthday party for Helen Hayes, the couple has decided to list the Sparkill, New York property for $4,950,000. Known as Treetops, it was built in 1859 and has six bedrooms, eight original fireplaces, and plenty of period details.
While Dahl had a legendary career in Hollywood, Rosen has worked with brands such as Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi, and Elizabeth Arden, designing their cosmetic and fragrance branding and packaging. Other celebrities the couple has hosted at their home include Brooke Shields, Rosie O’Donnell, Joan Collins, Liza Minelli, Joan Rivers, and Jane Powell.
Forty years ago, when the couple was engaged, Rosen found the home and went on to oversee a total renovation and restoration of the estate, which included bringing back the original layout and stripping the eight fireplace mantles to their original form. Soon after, they were married at the house. According to the listing, it is one of the “finest period homes in the region” thanks to its handsome mansard roof, broad verandas, and intact interiors.
The lovely deck is adorned with vintage wicker furniture and a collection of blue-and-white pottery.
There are two living rooms on either side of the entrance, as well as a formal dining room. Throughout, you’ll find ornate moldings, original hardwood floors, and marble fireplace mantels.
The eat-in kitchen has a brick floor-to-ceiling fireplace.
The primary bedroom suite is quite luxurious, with marble fireplaces in both the bedrooms and bathroom, as well as a mirrored pass-through with a marble double vanity.
As mentioned, there are six bedrooms totals, as well as three-and-a-half bathrooms. The home spans 4,000 square feet.
The property sits on 7.3 acres and includes an antique three-story barn with a garage and separate apartment, as well as a heated kidney-shaped pool.
The home originally hit the market for $6.5 million in 2019, but it’s now returned for $1.5 million less.
