Jimmy Choo Co-Founder Offers UES Mansion Penthouse for $60K/Month
Jimmy Choo co-founder Tamara Mellon has long been trying to sell her palatial penthouse pad, which sits atop the Carhart Mansion at 3 East 95th Street. The Carnegie Hill apartment, which boasts five bedrooms and one of the most impressive shoe closets of all time, recently reduced its price from $34 million to $27 million. And now it’s on the rental market for $60,000 a month. The 7,000-square-foot penthouse has a long line of impressive owners—Mellon bought this from the Seagram heir Charles Bronfman Jr.
The Carhart Mansion was designed in 1913 by architect Horace Trumbauer as a Louis XVI Parisian townhouse. It’s considered one of the finest examples of 18th century French Classicism in New York. In 2005, the mansion was converted into four massive condo apartments that have a more modern aesthetic. This penthouse is accessed by a keyed elevator, which opens to the large foyer and a dining room with a wood-burning fireplace. In total, the duplex apartment boasts 10 rooms, 7,140 interior square feet and 5,390 exterior square feet.
The living room, which also has a wood-burning fireplace, has its own enclosed solarium. Casement doors open up to a south-facing terrace—one of several throughout the home.
The open kitchen looks solidly modern, with an impressively long breakfast bar.
There are four bedrooms, plus a maid’s quarter, on the first level of the duplex. The highlight of the master bedroom, of course, is…
…A shoe closet that’s larger than many NYC apartments. This has to be one of the most impressive closets we’ve ever seen in New York, but we wouldn’t expect anything less from the co-founder of Jimmy Choo.
There’s a terrace off the downstairs living room, and then three different terrace spaces on the upper level. All are elegantly furnished, one even has an outdoor television. If you’re going to deck out the rooftop of a glamorous UES mansion, you may as well do it right.
