In addition to offering their four signature cookies--chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate peanut butter chip, dark chocolate chocolate chip, and oatmeal raisin--the new shop will have a yet-to-be-revealed new menu.

The history of how the New York Public Library got its start Downtown

This year, the New York Public Library is celebrating its 125th anniversary. With 53 million items and 92 locations across Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island, the NYPL is the largest municipal library in the world. It’s also the steward of some of New York’s greatest landmarks, reflecting a century and a quarter of Gotham’s history, and in some cases even more. The roots of this library system can be found in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and Noho. The main antecedents of the NYPL which formed the foundation of today’s system— the Astor Library, the Lenox Library, and the New York Free Circulating Library – all began in these neighborhoods just below 14th Street. As a result, this is where New York’s oldest public library buildings and the oldest building housing an NYPL branch are located -- the latter ironically having been where great works of literature were banned and censored before it became a library.

14 historic sites of the abolitionist movement in Greenwich Village

As this year marks 400 years since the first African slaves were brought to America, much attention has been paid to what that means and how to remember this solemn anniversary. The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission issued a story map highlighting landmarks of the abolitionist movement in New York City. Absent from the map were a number of incredibly important sites in Greenwich Village, the East Village, and Noho, which were a hotbed of abolitionist activity through the 19th century, as well as the home of the city’s largest African American community. Ahead, learn about 14 significant sites of the anti-slavery movement.

City’s Soho/Noho report addresses affordable housing, zoning, and small business success

The Department of City Planning (DCP), along with Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Council Member Margaret Chin, released on Wednesday the Envision Soho/Noho report, a comprehensive summary of findings and recommendations that address issues and guide future plans for downtown Manhattan's Soho and Noho neighborhoods. The report represents the result of a six-month-long community engagement series on the two historic neighborhoods, aimed at addressing their unique challenges in the 21st century. Contained in the report is a detailed summary of the engagement process that presents the perspectives of participants, as well as recommendations for guiding future plans for improving quality of life, addressing housing concerns, and supporting the unique mixed-use character of these neighborhoods.

Emily Ratajkowski and millionaire hubby live rent free thanks to city’s loft law, Noho landlord says

There have been a lot of discussions recently about the city's lack of affordable living space causing artists to flee the city, and about the relevance of regulations like the Loft Law, created to allow artists to live in neighborhoods like Noho and Soho. The New York Post now brings us the case of millionaire movie producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, 31, and his wife, model/actress Emily Ratajkowski, 27. The pair is reportedly living rent-free in a sprawling Noho loft at 49 Bleecker Street. The pair's landlord, of course, isn't happy with the fact that Bear-McClard, who is apparently worth an estimated $12 million, has been claiming protection under the state's Loft Law since 2017, to the tune of $120,000

City’s plans for Soho and Noho may include rezoning and removal of Artist In Residence law

The Department of City Planning, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and City Council Member Margaret Chin announced today the launch of a six-month public engagement process addressing the future of NYC's Soho and Noho neighborhoods. The series of public meetings and consultation with local stakeholders are an early phase in outlining a vision for the future of those neighborhoods; the city's plans include updating what many consider outdated zoning laws, including the removal of rarely-enforced restrictions on ground floor retail tenancy and Soho's Artist In Residence law.

Artist JR takes over Houston Bowery Wall with a thought-provoking mural about guns in America

French street artist JR and TIME magazine have paired up for a collaborative project, "The Gun Chronicles: A Story of America," consisting of a special issue due out on November 5, as well as a video mural to be featured in exhibits throughout the country and an interactive web feature at Time.com. The topic–the larger-than-life relationship America has with guns–needs little explanation; last Friday the “The Gun Chronicles” was installed on the Houston Bowery Wall in Soho. The building-sized cover story image is comprised of portraits photographed by the artist.

Be Cynthia Nixon’s Noho neighbor for $2.2M

An apartment right next door to gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon is now on the market for $2.22 million. The available co-op at 10 Bleecker Street, located off the Bowery in Noho, sits on the third floor, the same level where the "Sex and the City" star lives with her wife, Christine Marinoni. According to the New York Post, Nixon first purchased her apartment for $3.25 million in 2012. She also owns a small co-op nearby in the East Village, but when she purchased it for $1.5 million in 2016, it was speculated to be an investment property.

Noho’s Wormhole apartment brings ‘Batman’s cave’ to a Second Empire space

The multidisciplinary architecture/design firm Dash Marshall does it again. Before they evoked water with their “Raft Loft” in Tribeca, and now they turn to the soil with the “Wormhole” in Noho, which takes inspiration from dark tunnels underground that emerge into the bright sun. Inspired by science fiction, like "2001: Space Odyssey," and clients who were amenable to the stories they create, Ritchie Yao, one of the firms’ co-founders explained, “We built a Wormhole above Bond Street by invading a historic structure with futuristic bits to create a world within a world: new inside of old, dark inside of bright, minimal inside of maximal.”

Kristen Stewart just purchased a potential-filled Noho artists' loft at 1 Bond Street, the New York Observer reports. The "Twilight Saga" actress and model snagged a 3,000-square-foot fixer-upper in the historic Robbins & Appleton building that boasts three exposures, Corinthian columns, a "highly customizable floor plan" and endless possibilities–for $5.64 million.

The history behind how Great Jones Street got its name

After 34 years of serving giant Cajun-Creole portions alongside obscure jukebox music, Great Jones Cafe is closing its doors for good tonight. The notorious Noho bar at 54 Great Jones Street opened in 1983 when the block was so empty patrons used be able to play whiffle ball in the street, but its closure serves as a reminder of the history of Great Jones Street. This superlative name dates way back to 1789 when politician Samuel Jones donated land to the city under the terms that they name any street within the property after him. But there was one little issue....

Luxe Noho developments embattled in a $10M lawsuit over a 20-foot alley

When the swanky new condo 1 Great Jones Alley began construction in 2015, part of the plan was to repave the 20-foot-wide, 137-foot-long Noho passageway with Belgian blocks and install a fancy new steel and mesh gate, turning this tiny street into a private walkway and driveway for residents. However, since the alley is not an official city street and is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Transportation, a 19th-century easement agreement said the other building that backs up to the alley, boutique co-op 684 Broadway, must also have access to it and retains part ownership. But the owners of the co-op are not happy with Madison Capital Realty's attempt to market the alley as a private amenity for 1 Great Jones Alley, and therefore have filed a $10 million lawsuit, according to the Post.

BKSK Architects share new renderings of artsy, boutique Noho condo 22 Bond

It's been a long time since Noho went from a creative warehouse district, home to the likes of Basquiat and Warhol, to a trendy enclave full of multi million-dollar lofts and Michelin-starred restaurants, but the 'hood has seen a recent influx of new boutique residential buildings, specifically 22 Bond, which may be the overall embodiment of the area. The 11-story condo offers only six units that begin at $9.8 million, but BKSK Architects' purposeful inclusion of large-scale art, both in the lobby and on the building itself, keep the neighborhood's creative history in play. The project has now launched its official page, which bring us new looks at its facades, art work, and interiors.

$14M Noho penthouse is mindfully designed, feng shui-enhanced and Architectural Digest-approved

A $14 million price tag for a 3,000-square-foot, four-bedroom penthouse at an address like 7 Bond Street in Noho wouldn't be much of a surprise–even without 1,200 square feet of outdoor space, a perfectly-proportioned floor plan and a floor of glass-enclosed sunrooms. A feature spread in Architectural Digest reveals that this is no ordinary large and luxurious downtown pad but a "healthy living retreat," and as the listing puts it, a "veritable sanctuary of comfort and serenity." Portfolio manager Jason Pickard's home takes mindful design beyond the mere visual. A thorough renovation by AD 100 designer James Huniford, feng shui master Dee Kelly and "certified Building-Biology consultant" Matthew Waletzke of Healthy Dwellings used resources like reclaimed building materials and innovative air and water filtration systems to create a peaceful, luxurious and environmentally-friendly space.
