Herzog & de Meuron’s Undulating Condo Design for the Hudson River Waterfront Revealed

Move over Greenwich Village, there's a new gold coast in Manhattan and it's nowhere near Fifth Avenue. Since former Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that the far west side is the city's new Gold Coast and Manhattan's last frontier, a necklace of ravishing projects have been announced along the Hudson River waterfront. The latest reveal is for a new 12-story, 88-unit condominium coming from famed hotelier Ian Schrager and Herzog & de Meuron Architects. The Hudson Square site at 156 Leroy Street will replace a handful of low-slung buildings that include two auto-body shops, a gentleman's club and the former Lunchbox Diner.

Beachy $1.85 Million Tribeca Loft Makes Suffering for Your Art a Pleasure

Jane Kim Design’s Tribeca Loft Lifts the Bedroom to Create an Oversized Living Space

In an endless attempt to maximize space in tiny New York City apartments, the lofted bed has become a popular mechanism. This usually consists of a mattress hoisted up on wooden supports, leaving just about a foot of space below the sleeper's head and the ceiling. But in a beautiful Tribeca loft renovation, Jane Kim Design masterfully tackled this issue by lifting the entire bedroom volume only slightly off the ground, encasing it in an architectural glass cube, and installing cabinetry, bike storage, HVAC, and a washer/dryer beneath.

Demolition Permits Filed at 101 Murray – The Site of Downtown Manhattan’s Future Tallest Condo

Demolition permits have been filed with the Department of Buildings for the tallest condominium building south of 'Billionaires' Row.' The approximately 950-foot tower revealed by real-estate blogger YIMBY last month will house 129 condos within a dramatic champagne flute-like design by the architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. Tentatively named 101 TriBeCa, the uppermost floorplates increase in size to take greater advantage of views uptown and towards the river that most likely will remain unobstructed years to come due to restrictive zoning in TriBeCa and Battery Park City.

The Architects at Triarch Make Wood Paneling Look Ultra Modern in This Tribeca Penthouse

Wood-paneled walls came along before the dark, dreary styles of the 80s that were found in your grandparents' basement. Earlier in the century, modernist architects, such as Jean Michel Frank, Adolf Loos and Bruno Paul, tastefully incorporated them in their designs. Orlando Bloom Purchases Tribeca Loft for $4.88 Million

Orlando Bloom just got a lot closer to Taylor Swift, and she didn’t even have to write a break-up song about him. The Lord of the Rings star has just purchased a $4.88 million three-bedroom loft at 155 Franklin Street, in the building formerly known as the Sugarloaf Warehouse. (We figure that sentence would make Prince proud.) We’re guessing this building has a certain appeal to hobbit acquaintances as the penthouse, now home to Swift, was formerly home to director Peter Jackson. So, it’s the hobbit gift that keeps on giving. According to the New York Post, the star was drawn to the loft’s “cast-iron columns, exposed brick walls, open chef’s kitchen and wood-beamed ceilings”. We would be too.

Fashion Meets Utility Inside Lela Rose’s Tribeca Loft Designed by WORKac (Catwalk Included)

New York is a true walking city, but can you imagine installing a sidewalk inside your apartment? That's essentially what the architects at Work Architecture Company (WORKac) did for this minimalist White Street loft. At the very heart of the living and dining rooms sits a row of Japanese-style tables that can be extended or retracted to act as a dance floor, catwalk or stage. That's just one of the many stunning features conceived by WORKac and the home's owner, fashion designer Lela Rose.

The Unveiling of 101 Tribeca Is Better Than Expected

If you didn’t like the renderings revealed earlier this year for the much-anticipated tower at 101 Murray Street, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that they were incorrect. New renderings – the right renderings- have been released to New York YIMBY… and she’s a beauty. 101 Tribeca, as she’ll be called, is being developed by Fisher Brothers and The Witkoff Group, and designed by Kohn Pederson Fox. The building is set to soar over Tribeca at roughly 950 feet tall with a sleek, slender design that elegantly bevels out at the top. The 63-story structure will house 129 condominiums, totaling 433,800 square feet. Its tall ceilings, coupled with its sheer height, promises to deliver unobstructed views that will stretch as far as New Jersey and Long Island.

When the going gets tough...put your massive Tribeca condo on the rental market for $45,000/month.  Well, at least that's what the owners of Apartment 1 at 16 Jay Street recently did after trying to sell the pad since April 2011.  Available immediately, the space can come furnished or unfurnished. Known in the design community for its sweeping cast-iron and mahogany staircase that was welded together inside the home in the shape of a double ellipsis, this floor-through apartment occupies the entire 4,200 square feet of 16 Jay Street's first floor.  It has 3BR/3BA and a 900-square-foot patio that contains a 25-foot-high sculpture and heated limestone flooring.

Antonio Lobon’s Zen Loft Finally Sells for $6.3 Million

After nearly four years on the market, international businessman Antonio Lobon took his $7 million Tribeca loft off the market. Earlier this year, the Hudson Street condo made its triumphant return to the market with new representation in Douglas Elliman agents Nicole Krinick and Frances Katzen, new photos, and a lower asking price of $6.5 million. It worked. 195 Hudson Street #6B officially closed for just $200 thousand below asking, and the new owners are none other than the previous owners of this gorgeous, recently sold apartment at the historic Worth Building.

Something to Sing About: Metropolitan Opera President Sells His Tribeca Loft for $2.8 Million

Kevin W. Kennedy, The Metropolitan Opera president (and former managing director of Goldman Sachs) and his pediatrician wife Karen have sold their stunning Tribeca loft for $2.8 million. The pair's former residence is 1,641-square-feet, and features 4 rooms, including 1 bedroom and 2 bathrooms. Large windows with wrought-iron Juliet balconies are this building’s signature, illuminating the welcoming space with its wood floors and original exposed brick walls. The deal was closed by Melinda Nix of Sotheby's. 27 Leonard Street, situated between Broadway and Hudson Street, was originally built in 1876 for William B. Lawrence, a New York Stock Exchange board member. In 2003 it was converted to luxury condominiums with a commitment to balancing privacy and entertainment.

Lena Dunham’s Parents Sell Their Tribeca Loft for $6.25 Million

Carroll Dunham and Laurie Simmons, the parents of prodigious millennial Lena Dunham, have sold their Tribeca loft at 16 Desbrosses St, #4S for $6.25 million. The 3,600-square-foot location for the award winning film, Tiny Furniture, was once a textile warehouse. In recent years, the bright, airy space, perfectly suited for artistic inspiration, was re-designed by architect David Bers who was also responsible for designing the couple’s other residence in Cornwall, CT. They also collaborated with interior designer Nick Dine, son of pop artist Jim Dine, and the result was an open, spacious live/work design prepared to accommodate any sudden bursts of inspiration.

NYC Condos Designed by Pritzker Prize Winners

The Pritzker Architecture Prize is architecture’s most acclaimed honor. Since 1979, the award has been given away annually to honor one living architect whose built work demonstrates consistent and significant contributions to humanity and the built environment. New York City is home to structures built by 12 of the 36 past winners — ranging from Philip Johnson to I.M. Pei to this year's winner, Shigeru Ban — and currently holds 14 residential examples of their work. One other fascinating tidbit is that condos designed by Pritzker Prize winning architects are selling on average a whopping 44% higher (price/square foot) than those their respective neighborhoods, and 47.5% higher than the Manhattan market average. Condos at the Shigeru Ban-Designed Cast Iron House Now Up for Sale!

Want to live in a Pritzker prize winning architect-designed condo? Five units in the Shigeru Ban-designed Cast Iron House were placed on the market today, including the East penthouse. Designs for the 67 Franklin Street structure were approved two years ago, accompanied by plenty of accolades from community members and architecture enthusiasts alike. And now that Ban has added '2014 Pritzker Prize Laureate' to his resume, we expect these beauties to fly off the shelves in the coming months (You have heard of the Pritzker Prize-effect, right?). As it stands, the 2,990-square-foot 3BR/3BA on the second floor has an asking price of $4.975 million, while the 3,809-square-foot 4BR with 1,531-square-foot terrace East penthouse, has been listed for a cool $13 million.

Owners of One-Time Damon Dash Art Gallery Want to Supersize the Tribeca Building

One of Tribeca’s few remaining cast-iron buildings may be getting taller. According to a recent request filed with the Department of Buildings, the owners of 172 Duane Street wants to add four more floors to the historic downtown structure. But it’s not the first time the owner, listed on the application as Anthony Coll, has attempted to super-size the building.
