Immersive art museum Hall des Lumières officially opens at landmarked Lower Manhattan bank hall

A new permanent museum dedicated to immersive digital art experiences opened inside a New York City landmark on Wednesday. Located in Tribeca at 49 Chambers Street, Hall des Lumières sits within the former Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank, which was constructed in 1911 in a Beaux-Arts architectural style. The museum's inaugural exhibition, Gustav Klimt: Gold in Motion, will feature animated projections of paintings by the famous Viennese painter across the former bank hall's marble walls and columns. The exhibition also includes a  presentation about the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank's history and original design.

Tribeca’s historic skybridge building finally sells for $24M

After nearly a decade on the market, a Tribeca home that has its own skybridge has sold for $24,000,000 in an off-market sale. The unusual listing included a townhouse at 9 Jay Street and a separate loft condo at 67 Hudson Street, connected by the famed footbridge suspended over Staple Street. The deal sets a new record for the highest per square foot sale for a townhouse in the neighborhood.

New underwater habitat with 20 million juvenile oysters deployed at NYC’s Gansevoort Peninsula

A new man-made underwater habitat with 20 million juvenile oysters was installed along the northern shore of Gansevoort Peninsula in the Hudson River this week. As part of a major project to restore and protect Hudson River Park's 400-acre Estuarine Sanctuary, the reef-like system includes hundreds of submerged "reef balls" and "gabions" seeded with baby oysters. Ultimately, the project aims to create an oyster reef complex, improve habitats for organisms found in the river, and help mitigate the effect of storm surges.

A permanent immersive art center will open inside a Lower Manhattan landmark this summer

A permanent museum dedicated to immersive art experiences will open this summer in Lower Manhattan. Dubbed Hall des Lumières, the art center will take over the former Emigrant Industrial Saving Bank building across from City Hall and feature animated and glowing 30-foot displays of famous paintings. Developed by French museum operator Culturespaces and IMG, the center's inaugural installation will be Gustav Klimt: Gold in Motion, "a thematic journey through the golden, sensuous and revolutionary art of the Viennese painter," according to a press release.

The Tribeca Habitat Enhancement Project announced it has completed what has been the largest habitat enhancement project to date, and the first large-scale restoration initiative in Hudson River Park's 400-acre Estuarine Sanctuary between Pier 26 and Pier 34. A key indicator of the project's success: the installation of 11.2 million juvenile oysters to help support marine life in the Hudson River.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have long maintained a home in New York City, but now that the NFL quarterback has taken up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they're consolidating a bit. As the Post first spotted, the couple has sold their Tribeca apartment for $36,800,000 million, according to property records. Brady and supermodel Bündchen bought the five-bedroom, 12th-floor pad in Robert A.M. Stern's 70 Vestry Street in 2018 for $25.5 million pad. Just last month, though, they bought a smaller unit on the same floor for $3.5 million, which will presumably now serve as their NYC pied-à-terre.

Pearl River Mart to close Tribeca flagship next year

Pearl River Mart will shutter its Tribeca flagship early next year, store owners announced last week, becoming the latest New York City institution to shutter because of the coronavirus pandemic. In a blog post, company president Joanne Kwong said negotiations with the landlord "have stalled" and that he "has made clear his desire to use the courts to recoup every dollar he can, not just from our business, but from our personal assets." Despite the closure, Pearl River Mart, which has sold one-of-a-kind Asian-inspired decor and cookware in Manhattan since 1971, will keep its stores and new food concept in Chelsea Market open and the company said it has already secured a new location in the neighborhood.

Tribeca’s eco-friendly Pier 26 opens with innovative man-made tidal marsh

A new eco-friendly public pier opened in Tribeca on Wednesday, the first to open at the four-mile-long Hudson River Park in 10 years. Designed by landscape architecture firm OLIN, Pier 26 spans 2.5 acres, features indigenous plants and trees, and boasts multi-use recreation fields. But the most unique element of the new $37.7 million pier is a man-made rocky tidal marsh and the cantilevered walkway that hangs above it, providing an ecological experience and incredible water and Statue of Liberty views at the same time.
