Mini-loft meets hobbit-hole in this $675K Hell’s Kitchen triplex
Part gnome-tastic rustic hobbit-hole and part “downtown loft,” this cozy little triplex at 520 West 50th Street in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen has the kind of rustic charm, wood details, and interesting layout that’s classic to a neighborhood quickly filling up with fancy architecture. Asking $675,000, the one-bedroom co-op is perfect for a new, modern overhaul, but the kitchen and bath have been updated and it’s definitely not a cookie-cutter box. And it is, after all, minutes from the Theater District and an explosion of things to do in Midtown and the far west side.
This Hell’s Kitchen triplex loft is set up as a one-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath home, though “triplex” is a bit misleading (the living area is a few steps down a spiral staircase from the kitchen, which is actually a pretty good idea). There are 14-foot ceilings in the living room, lovely oak floors everywhere, and and tons of funky details including a truly medieval front door.
The windowed kitchen–windows are a bit scarce here, overall–features a vented Bertazzoni gas range and lots of storage. The inlaid pattern on the floorboards is pretty cool, too.
On the same floor is a full bathroom that was just renovated. There’s a nice big glass-enclosed shower and, as with the kitchen, plenty of cabinetry.
Downstairs is a cozy, quirky–and narrow at seven feet wide, though the listing says it fits a queen sized bed comfortably–bedroom. For extra convenience, there’s a half-bath down here as well, and the listing points out that despite all the rustic charm, there’s a washer and dryer in the unit, so modern life hasn’t been totally forgotten.
