There’s still time to get special Broadway Week pricing for these shows

Broadway Week is back, with over two dozen shows offering two-for-one ticket pricing through February 9. With the success of the "Wicked" movie adaptation catapulting Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo into award season, the stage show has been sold out for weeks. But there’s still time to catch other major productions like “Romeo + Juliet” starring Rachel Zegler, “Aladdin,” “The Book of Mormon,” and “Sunset Blvd.” with Nicole Scherzinger. New shows include the musical adaptation of the 1992 Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep movie “Death Becomes Her,” featuring Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child fame, and “Redwood” with Idina Menzel. Since its inception in 2011, Broadway Week has aimed to make theater accessible to more people.

All Broadway theaters will require vaccinations for audiences and actors

The Broadway League is the latest group to join a growing number of government agencies and businesses that will implement a Covid vaccine mandate. The League, which represents theater owners and show producers, put out a statement today saying that all 41 Broadway theaters will "require vaccinations for audience members, as well as performers, backstage crew, and theatre staff, for all performances through October 2021." In addition, audience members must wear masks indoors, given the CDC's new guidelines surrounding the Delta variant.

Broadway is coming back on September 14

In a press conference today, Governor Cuomo announced that tickets for future Broadway shows will go on sale on May 6, as performances are expected to resume at 100 percent capacity on September 14. All of New York City's 41 Broadway theaters closed on March 12, 2020, due to the Covid pandemic. "Broadway is at the core of our New York identity, and a big part of our economy which employs countless performers and show creators, and beginning this September, the show will go on," the governor said.

Broadway will stay dark for the rest of the year

In mid-May, the Broadway League continued the suspension of all performances at New York City’s 41 Broadway theaters through Labor Day. At the time, however, many industry insiders said they expected the Great White Way to actually remain dark for much longer. And as of today, that's become a reality. The League provided an update on their website that all performances in New York City will be suspended through the remainder of 2020.
