NYC outdoor pools will be closed all summer because of coronavirus pandemic

Outdoor public pools will be closed all summer as the city looks to make major budget cuts amid the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday. Facing a staggering $7.4 billion loss in tax revenue, the city plans to make over $2 billion in cuts to its executive budget. According to the mayor, closing the pools for the 2020 season, which runs from late June to Labor Day, will save the city $12 million.

Private island mansion with celebrity history and NYC views returns for $8.7M

Back in 2015, 6sqft covered this unusual property. The mansion at Tavern Island is, in fact, on a 2.7-acre private island off the coast of Connecticut. Even cooler is the island's history: The property's main house was built in the 1930s and was home to screenwriter Lillian Hellman when she was writing “The Little Foxes,” Mansion Global reports, and theater impresario Billy Rose owned the island in the 1960s and hosted lavish parties for the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Maureen O’Sullivan, and Barbara Streisand. In addition to these epic bragging rights, the new owner of the island will gain a six-bedroom English Colonial mansion dating to 1900, private beach, swimming pool, and a docking area and boat for access the mainland. According to property records, the current owners bought the island for $950,000 in 1981.

‘Hercules’ actor Kevin Sorbo chops the price of his giant Hamptons estate to $6.5M

Kevin Sorbo bought this five+ acre Bridgehampton property back in 2001 for $900,000. After building a massive, 12,500-square-foot, eight-bedroom home in 2004, the actor and his wife Sam Jenkins listed it for $10.5 million in 2012. It was taken off the market the following year, after which time it hit the rental market and gained its notorious reputation as the ultimate party pad, according to the Post. These "illegal" and ticketed bashes were often hosted for new product launches, but once Sorbo found out they went against town codes he presumably used some Herculean strength to put an end to it. Curbed Hamptons now reports that the sprawling residence is back on the market for the much-reduced price of $6.5 million.
