Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright used this artsy Gramercy studio to write several of his albums, as well as the opera Prima Donna, according to the Compass listing. He’s now looking to offload the pied-a-terre at 38 Gramercy Park North, listing it for $450,000. In addition to these celeb-worthy bragging rights, the new owner can get a coveted key to Gramercy Park.
The apartment is completely in keeping with Wainwright’s funky, Baroque style and love of opera. It has 11-foot ceilings, a decorative fireplace, cozy sleeping alcove, and scenic Zuber wallpaper imported from France. There are two closets, one of which is a walk-in.
Through the sleeping alcove is the petite kitchen. There is a cooktop and a half-fridge.
As mentioned, the co-op comes with a key to Gramercy Park. The building also offers a resident superintendent, roof deck, bike storage, and a common laundry room.
Editor’s Note:Â At the time of publication, a contract had been signed for this listing. The original version of this article incorrectly said Dennis Colwell of Compass had the listing. The apartment was listed by Kyle Haas and Ivana Tagliamonte of Compass
