Brooklyn architecture firm Young Projects is known for transforming New York properties in inventive and visually stunning ways--just look at how they upended the traditional townhouse for this Williamsburg project. For their Hudson Street Residence project, the firm took the top three levels of a Tribeca building and created a gorgeous 13,000-square-foot penthouse apartment tied together by interior garden courts and topped with a striking roof garden. A continuous cast aluminum surface--which the firm specially designed for this project--gracefully weaves together each living space of the residence.

EVENT: Enjoy live jazz in the stunning medieval gardens of The Met Cloisters

If checking out The Cloisters has long been on your to-do list, there's no better time to head north than for the museum's MetFridays. On Friday, August 11th (that's tomorrow!) and Friday, August 25th, The Met will host two hours of live 1930s jazz at sunset in their stunning medieval gardens. Performances will feature trumpeter Alex Nguyen, winner of the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition, and his quartet as they perform the same ditties that topped the charts when the museum was first constructed between 1934 and 1939.

Musician/music producer Brian Burton (a.k.a. Danger Mouse) has just listed his cool maisonette-meets-loft duplex at 222 East 17th Street in Gramercy (h/t Luxury Listings). The six-time Grammy winner, “Grey Album” mashup artist, and Gnarls Barkley founder bought the pad in 2014 for $1.4 million. Likely a selling point was the garden co-op's private church-adjacent garden that looks more fairy tale than hip hop.

The proposal, designed by urban planning and landscape architecture firm West 8, includes more than an acre of garden space for residents to both work and socialize, boasting indoor and outdoor grilling spaces, ping-pong tables, a putting green, children's playground, adult tree house, tea pavilion, and an observatory made for stargazing.

Late billionaire’s ex lists spectacular Stanhope penthouse with five terrace gardens for $65M

The 7,067 square-foot penthouse at 995 Fifth Avenue owned by Claude Wasserstein, ex wife of the late Bruce Wasserstein, former chair of investment firm Lazard, was just listed for the first time since a brief stint on the market in 2010. Wasserstein, who died in 2009, was the brother of the late playwright Wendy Wasserstein. The 11-room, five-bedroom duplex atop the Rosario Candela-designed former Stanhope hotel was purchased by Ms. Wasserstein for $34.8 million in 2008, The Real Deal reports. In addition to five garden-like wraparound terraces crafted by landscape designer Madison Cox, "epic NYC views" and 72 linear feet of Central Park frontage, the full-service building offers top-drawer amenities like a gym and a spa. But does all of that add up to $65 million–$9,285 per square foot?

Academy-award winner Mark Ruffalo sold his townhouse at 319 Sackett Street in Carroll Gardens for $3.125 million last month, according to LLNYC, which he bought in 2015 for a higher price of $3.5 million. The home offers four bedrooms, several fireplaces, and an expansive blue stone garden. Ruffalo recently checked out a $10 million Upper West Side brownstone that underwent a contemporary renovation.

It’s also more modern than you might think. In 1909, noted architect and urban planner Grosvenor Atterbury, employed with the firm McKim, Mead and White, was, with partner Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. (son of the famous landscape architect) commissioned to plan a new community in Forest Hills, Queens. The result was one of the first–and most successful–uses of the prefabricated housing process that we’ve seen to date. These rarely-on-the-market homes–like this semi-detached brick townhome at 20 Ingram Street–have withstood the test of time, possessing both a timeless quality and, in this case, a fascinating sense of an early modern era long past but still somehow present in these unique rooms.
