Taylor Swift might be the buyer of this $18M Tribeca townhouse

Google Street View of 153 Franklin Street; Taylor Swift via Wiki Commons As 6sqft has reported, pop star Taylor Swift is no stranger to controversial real estate news: It was rumored in 2015 that she had Sir Ian McKellen booted from the penthouse loft at the celebrity studded 155 Franklin Street that she'd just bought for $19.95 million; and Orlando Bloom claims to have been driven from the same building after only five months in residence due to Ms. Swift's legions of clamoring fans. According to the New York Post, the singer's latest newsworthy buy is a Tribeca townhouse at nearby 153 Franklin Street, which she just acquired for $18 million. The home also happens to be the one French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn stayed in while under house arrest in 2011 for the sexual assault and attempted rape of a hotel maid.

Snøhetta tapped as lead architect for $300M Sony Building restoration

Over the last few years, plans to refurbish the former headquarters of AT&T and Sony Building at 550 Madison Avenue have come and gone, including a proposal to convert the upper floors into luxury condos designed by Robert A.M. Stern. Now, with those plans long abandoned, Olayan America and Chelsfield revealed plans on Monday for a $300 million renovation of the tower, modernizing the lower levels of the building with high-quality amenities and a sprawling 21,000-square-foot public garden. With Snøhetta as lead architect, the renovation will be the first major project in East Midtown since its revitalization plan was approved earlier this year.

Seth Meyers’ $4.5M West Village condo is in contract after only a month

Just over a month after listing his West Village condo at 302 West 12th Street for $4.5 million, the “Late Night” host has reportedly found a buyer for the two-bedroom unit (h/t Curbed). Meyers and his wife, Alexi, purchased the pad for $3.5 million in 2013, but last summer they dropped $7.5 million on a five-bedroom co-op at 32 Washington Square West.

New Domino Sugar Factory renderings show barrel-vaulted glass topper and taller towers

Update 10/31/17: The Landmarks Preservation Commission did not approve the new plans at the hearing, instead suggesting the architects present revised designs that address how the newly exposed brick will be preserved and how the ground floor will interact with the open space. The Commissioners were divided on the glass topper, with some feeling it appropriately references the building's arches and others feeling it inappropriately treats the structure as a ruin.  6sqft previously shared the latest round of designs for the three million-square-foot Domino Sugar Factory mega-development in Williamsburg, done by Vishaan Chakrabarti‘s Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU). Developer Two Trees broke ground on the first tower in the Domino Sugar Refinery Master Plan last spring, and the lottery opened for 104 affordable units at the SHoP Architects-designed building, the 16-story 325 Kent Avenue. Now, more new renderings of the complex have been released ahead of an October 31 presentation before the Landmarks Preservation Commission (h/t Brownstoner).

System Architects’ fiery Tribeca townhouse is partially unveiled

The latest Tribeca distraction: the partial unveiling of the single-family townhouse at 187 Franklin Street, a funky flame-façaded new building that its architect,  Jeremy Edmiston of System Architects, refers to as the Unhistoric Townhouse. Tribeca Citizen reports that workers at the building (which also resembles a Yankees logo) were lifting off some of the mesh that conceals the wavy wonder, perhaps to install one of its metal-mesh balconies. 6sqft previously covered the building, whose design of an undulating red façade complemented by those silvery, net-like balconies was first proposed in 2010.

Rare photos of the High Line being demolished in the 1960s tell the story of a changing West Village

Few structures have had a more far-reaching impact upon the West Village and Chelsea than the High Line. Its construction in 1934, then partial demolition in the early '60s, and final preservation and conversion into a park a decade ago have profoundly shaped the way these neighborhoods have changed over the last 85 years. And while photos of its heyday and those of it today as an internationally recognized public space are plenty, few exist of those interim years. But GVSHP recently acquired some wonderful images of the High Line being demolished in 1962 at Perry Street, donated by the Fritsch Family who lived nearby at 141 Perry Street. The Fritschs’ photos say a lot about how the High Line, and its demolition, changed the West Village. It’s apparent from the images just how much more industrial, and gritty the Far West Village was in those days. But it also shows how the demolition of the High Line left a huge gap in this unpretentious neighborhood, which housed both disappearing industry and a diverse and vital residential community.

J.Lo and A-Rod go apartment hunting at 432 Park Avenue

When your relationship status gets its own acronym you know you're in another league of celebrity, so it comes as no surprise that J-Rod is said to be checking out apartments in 432 Park Avenue, the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere. According to the Page Six, a broker says they've been to the tower four times, while another broker claims they're looking at a "four-bedroom, half-floor unit on a high floor." The timing makes sense, as Jennifer Lopez put her enormous Nomad penthouse on the market for $27 million just 10 days ago.

‘Orange is the New Black’ star Natasha Lyonne checks out $2M East Village synagogue condo

James Gandolfini’s former West Village apartment asks $7.5M

The West Village apartment that the late actor James Gandolfini, who became a household name for his portrayal of conflicted mafia boss Tony Soprano, shared with ex-wife Marcy Wudarski Gandolfini is for sale. 6sqft took note back in 2015 when the 3,200-square-foot condo hit the rental market asking $21,000 a month. Now the actor's ex is selling the four-bedroom home at 99 Jane Street for $7.5M, according to the New York Post. The couple bought one apartment in the building in 1999 for $850,000 and picked up the second for $1 million sometime later, creating one townhouse-sized pad before their split in 2002.

Amid legal trouble, model Erin Heatherton re-lists West Village condo for $2.7M

Exactly a year ago, former Victoria’s Secret model and ex Leonardo DiCaprio gal pal Erin Heatherton put her West Village apartment on the market for $2.85 million after the 1 Morton Square board sued her over excessively loud parties and delinquent condo fees. Unable to unload the two-bedroom spread, she then tried to rent it for $15,00 a month just a couple months later. Now, she's trying again to sell, this time re-decorating the interiors to be more chic than rustic and lowering the price a tad to $2,695,000. Could this have to do with the $10 million lawsuit she was hit with last month by her former stylist Clare Byrne over a clothing line that they never launched?

Thomas Heatherwick’s 150-foot climbable ‘Vessel’ hits halfway mark at Hudson Yards

In April, construction began on Hudson Yards' Vessel, a 150-foot-tall steel structure designed by Heatherwick Studio and its 100,000 pound-components were put in place by crane. The $200 million "public landmark" began to rise in August and now the structure's construction has hit its halfway mark. The project's idea comes from Related Companies' chairman Stephen Ross, who called it the "365-day Christmas tree." The climbable Vessel will be the centerpiece of the Public Square and Gardens, five-acres of greenery that will connect the buildings of Hudson Yards. The structure includes 154 geometric-lattice linked flights of stairs, 80 landings and will able to hold 1,000 visitors.

Construction of Norman Foster’s ritzy One Hundred East 53rd Street tower is complete!

The Midtown East tower designed by Norman Foster's Foster + Partners is finally finished. As CityRealty reported, the glassy design of One Hundred East 53rd Street takes into account the bronze hues of its historic neighbor, the Seagram Building, with a counter curtain wall. The luxurious residential building continues to be a magnet for celebrities, including couples like George and Amal Clooney and Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. As CityRealty learned, the supertall at 225 West 57th Street on Billionaires' Row will feature a sprawling landscaped space designed by HMWhite.
