‘The Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah buys a $10M Stella Tower penthouse

It looks like Trevor Noah's $15,000 rental at Stella Tower was just a space for him to kill time while waiting to move upstairs into a $10 million penthouse. The Journal reports that Noah closed today on the top-floor duplex apartment that spans the 17th and 18th floors of the 1927 Ralph Walker-designed skyscraper. In all, the star's new spacious abode measures 3,600 square feet and comes encircled by a large, 930-square-foot terrace with sweeping views of the city.

Trevor Noah renting a $15,000/month Hell’s Kitchen bachelor pad in Ralph Walker’s Stella Tower

Fresh into his second year as host of "The Daily Show," Trevor Noah is treating himself to some iconic New York real estate. The Post reports that the South African comedian is renting a $15,000 a month bachelor pad at Stella Tower, the Ralph Walker condo conversion in Hell's Kitchen. The Art Deco tower was built in 1927 as a telephone building and was converted along with Chelsea's Walker Tower in recent years by JDS Development Group. Noah's new digs are a 1,700-square-foot, two-bedroom residence that has an impressive outdoor terrace. Located at 425 West 50th Street, it's just a few blocks away from The Daily Show Studios at 52nd Street and Eleventh Avenue.

Norman Foster’s 78-story office tower opens in Hudson Yards

A boutique luxury office building designed by Norman Foster officially opened in Hudson Yards this week. Described as "multiple buildings within a building," 50 Hudson Yards is a 1,011-foot-tall tower that takes up a full block between Hudson Boulevard and 10th Avenue, between 33rd and 34th Streets. Developed by Related Companies, Oxford Properties, and Mitsui Fudosan America, 50 Hudson Yards is already over 84 percent leased, with Meta and BlackRock as two of the tower's anchor tenants.

$10.65M unit at Brooklyn Heights’ Quay Tower goes into contract, setting 2021 condo record

Assuming the condo at Brooklyn Heights' Quay Tower closes for its $10,650,000 asking price, it'll become Brooklyn's priciest condo sale of the year. This is not the first record-setter for the luxury waterfront tower. In April 2020, a penthouse closed for $20,301,000, making it the borough’s most expensive residential sale ever at the time. (It was outdone by a $25.5 million Brooklyn Heights townhouse sale in January of this year, but it's still the borough's biggest condo sale.) The latest sale is for a 4,544-square-foot, four-bedroom unit with amazing skyline and harbor views.

Hudson Yards unveils new contemporary art by Jaume Plensa, Frank Stella, and Joel Shapiro

Just yesterday Hudson Yards announced that it would officially open on March 15th, and when visitors first visit the mega-development, they'll now have even more art to peruse. According to a press release from developer Related, the complex has unveiled large-scale contemporary art installations by three renowned artists--Jaume Plensa, Frank Stella, and Joel Shapiro. "I have always been passionate about the impact art, sculpture and design can have on our lives – the memorable experiences they create and the warmth they bring to the places we live and visit," said Related chairman Stephen Ross.

Ahead of next year’s opening, TWA Hotel’s second tower tops out

MCR and Morse Development's repurposing of Eero Saarinen's historic TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport into a hotel, event space and dining destination continues to move full speed ahead. The second crescent-shaped tower of the TWA Hotel officially topped out this week, nearly a year ahead of its spring 2019 opening. The hotel will contain 505 rooms, a rooftop pool, an observation deck, eight bars and restaurants and 50,000 square feet of event space. Saarinen's landmarked TWA Flight Center terminal building will serve as the hotel lobby, a 200,000-square-foot space with retail, restaurants and bars.

Frank Gehry and Santiago Calatrava to design Hudson Yards residential towers

Though starchitect Frank Gehry threatened to flee to France after the 2016 election, he'll likely be sticking around to design new towers at the Hudson Yards mega-development on Manhattan's west side; Gehry and fellow controversial architect Santiago Calatrava are among those chosen to work on the residential western section of Related Cos. and Oxford Properties' 28-acre complex, according to a source close to the project who spoke with the Wall Street Journal.

Karl Fischer-Designed Tower to Replace Beekman Place’s Piscane Seafood Building

Piscane Seafood, one of the oldest remaining fish markets in the city, closed this spring, and its humble 19th-century home at 940 First Avenue will be replaced by a 14-story residential building. According to permits filed with the city's Department of Buildings yesterday, the narrow 25-foot-wide lot will give rise to a 141-foot-tall tower developed by Brooklyn-based CS Real Estate Group and designed by the often-maligned architect Karl Fischer. The building will provide a commercial storefront at ground level and thirteen floor-through units above, likely condominiums.

Trevor Noah finds buyer for Hell’s Kitchen penthouse with plunge pool, last asking $11M

Trevor Noah's penthouse in Hell's Kitchen entered contract this week for $10,995,000, after hitting the market last fall, CityRealty reports. The comedian and former host of "The Daily Show" first listed the sprawling duplex at the Art Deco Stella Tower at 425 West 50th Street last October for $12,950,000, soon after announcing his departure from the Comedy Central show. The three-bedroom duplex condo, which Noah bought for $10 million in 2017, offers expansive views of Manhattan and a 1,000-square-foot landscaped terrace with a heated plunge pool with built-in speakers and a wet bar.

In 2017, 6sqft covered the TV star's purchase of the west side penthouse atop the dazzling Art Deco Stella Tower at 425 West 50th Street for $10 million. In addition to iconic Manhattan views, the three-bedroom duplex condo offers a 1,000-square-foot terrace with a heated plunge pool (speakers included). The comedian put his apartment on the market just a few weeks after announcing his departure from the Comedy Central show after seven years.

A first look at Walker House, Newark’s historic Bell Telephone Building conversion

The first images of the finished Walker House in Downtown Newark have been released, giving us a peek inside the restored Art Deco masterpiece at 540 Broad Street. Designed by renowned architect Ralph Walker in 1929 as the corporate headquarters for the Bell Telephone Company and entered into the National Historic Register in 2005, the 21-story building has been redeveloped into a mixed-use building comprised of 264 apartments (a mix of market-rate and affordable units), amenities, offices, and retail space, including a brewery, a coffee shop, and Newark's first climbing wall.

Real estate bigwig drops $4.35M on Seth Meyers’ West Village condo

Real estate bigwig Michael Fuchs (he co-founded RFR Realty with his childhood friend Aby Rosen) paid $4.35 million for Seth Meyers' West Village condo at 302 West 12th Street, according to the Post. The “Late Night” host and his wife Alexi Ashe bought the two-bedroom unit in 2013 for $3.5 million, but after dropping $7.5 million on a five-bedroom Washington Square West co-op in summer 2016, they listed their smaller pad this past September for $4.5 million. And Fuchs must've really seen something in the apartment, because he went into contract on it just a month later.

Just over a month after listing his West Village condo at 302 West 12th Street for $4.5 million, the “Late Night” host has reportedly found a buyer for the two-bedroom unit (h/t Curbed). Meyers and his wife, Alexi, purchased the pad for $3.5 million in 2013, but last summer they dropped $7.5 million on a five-bedroom co-op at 32 Washington Square West.

‘Late Night’ host Seth Meyers lists one of his Village apartments for $4.5M

Seth Meyers seems to be taking a "closer look" at his West Village real estate holdings, as Mansion Global reports that that the "Late Night" host has listed a condo that he owns with his wife Alexi at 302 West 12th Street for $4.5 million. They bought the unit, a lovely little two-bedroom spread, for $3.5 million in 2013, but last summer they dropped $7.5 million on a much larger, five-bedroom co-op at 32 Washington Square West, which, interestingly, was previously owned by actress Mary Louise Parker.

Iconic ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov buys Harlem condo for $1.4 million

Mikhail Baryshnikov, who fled the Soviet Union in 1974 and landed in Canada is today considered one of the greatest ballet dancers in history (closer to home, he also starred in "Sex and the City" as Sarah Jessica Parker's penultimate love interest). Nearly six years ago, he and his wife, former ballerina Lisa Rinehart, relocated to Harlem from the posh upstate enclave Snedens Landing, and they're clearly happy with this move, as they also recently bought a $1.4 million condo at the Strathmore, located at 1890 Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard (h/t NY Post). Their new prewar abode, originally listed for $1.32 million, boasts three bedrooms, a cozy layout, and high ceilings.

Emmy Rossum bids farewell to her beautiful Sutton Place pied-à-terre

Actress Emmy Rossum's perfectly outfitted pied à terre has a new owner. LLNYC reports that a buyer has just scooped up the "Shameless" star's one-bedroom charmer at 455 East 57th Street for $1.1 million. Rossum quietly listed the home last November, just a month after she invited Elle Decor over to photograph the space. The full spread shares Rossum's journey of turning the "pied-à-teardown" into an elegant escape with the help of Brooklyn interior designer Antonino Buzzetta. According to Elle, Rossum asked Buzzetta for something "chic, European, the look of a modern girl who has inherited her grandmother's stuff." "I wanted it to have a young energy, but with old-fashioned touches," she said.
