This $7.5M West Village townhouse was once home to Derek Jeter and A-Rod
According to the listing for this otherwise nondescript brick townhouse on a pretty West Village street, both Derek Jeter and fellow former Yankee Alex Rodriguez were one-time residents. Jeter was renting the 2,800 square-foot home until last spring, and Curbed tells us that while Courtney Love took a look but didn’t bite, the four-story home at 56 Bank Street has been on the market for quite some time, most recently asking $7.495 million.
The Greek Revival-style home was built in 1833 for the Reverend Joseph Carter; while a few historic details remain (such as the home’s wrought iron stoop railing details), the 20-foot-wide townhouse has been “restored and thoroughly modernized” with baller-ready perks like central air, four gas-burning fireplaces with black slate fire boxes, a washer/dryer, custom recessed lighting and a state-of-the-art sound system with remote controls.
The home is, as the listing promises, well-suited for both entertaining and private living. The home’s four floors plus basement are connected by a dramatic steel staircase with South American marble treads, illuminated by a four-story wall of one-way privacy glass. There’s a full-floor living room, and a sleek, no-nonsense kitchen with brushed granite countertops opens onto a large dining room.
The home only has two actual bedrooms (though that’s easily remedied with a new floor plan and a good contractor). The master suite boasts a spa bathroom with extra party points earned for a separate dedicated water tank and pressure pump for the infinity tub and Duravit rain shower; a separate bedroom /guest suite gets a private street entrance, bath and kitchenette.
For outdoor space there’s a private landscaped patio that’s fiesta-ready, and an expansive roof that “awaits your own landscaping vision.”
