In the book, a boy named Sam runs away from New York City to live in the Catskills. "'Let’s build a cabin Sam would want to live in,'" Velasquez says they decided. Today, the couple owns 40 acres of land in Margaretville, where they live and operate a small 1950s A-frame Airbnb. "When we bought the house we fell in love with the land first, it was just everything you could ever want – no neighbors, backs into state land. We knew that's what we wanted forever home," she said.

Derek Jeter finally finds a buyer for upstate New York ‘castle’

Former New York Yankee Derek Jeter has finally found a buyer for his unique compound in upstate New York. As first reported by Mansion Global, the 50,000-square-foot waterfront estate in Greenwood Lake, known as Tiedemann Castle, sold last week after several years on and off the market. Jeter purchased the property in 2003 and spent 15 years renovating the "castle" before listing it for $14.75 million in 2018. While the final price is not known since it hasn't closed yet, the home at 14 Lake Shore Road was most recently listed for $6.3 million.

The Michelin Guide has added 11 new restaurants to its New York dining guide. Located in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Hudson Valley, the guide's new additions include Little Myanmar, a Burmese restaurant in the East Village, Peppercorn Station, a Szechuan restaurant in Midtown West, and the Apropos Restaurant at the Abbey Inn, a Mediterranean restaurant in Peekskill. No restaurants in the Bronx, Queens, or Staten Island were included in Michelin's latest update, according to Eater New York.

The Metro-North Railroad last weekend kicked off its annual "Leaf Peeper" train service, boosting service on the Hudson River line, which provides scenic views of upstate's changing foliage and stops in charming autumnal towns like Peekskill, Cold Spring, and Beacon. Five extra trains on Saturdays and four trains on Sundays have been added from October 7 through November 5.
