We bet your home doesn’t have 24-carat gilded gold moldings… but if you feel like upgrading to such a regal residence, this $55 million Upper East Side townhouse is just the ticket. Located at 10 East 62nd Street, just off Central Park, the landmarked Beaux-Arts building is currently configured as a triplex, two duplexes, and a common penthouse, all of which are currently being rented out. The triplex has been on and off the rental market for years, going for as much as $60,000 a month. In addition to the gold details, it’s dripping with marble, hand-painted murals, and wrought-iron staircases.

The townhouse was built in 1910 by architects Hoppin, Koen & Huntington for Edmund Lincoln Baylies, a social leader and real estate lawyer who counted among his clients Cornelius Vanderbilt. In later years it became the esteemed Fleming School for girls. Today, the six-story home is three units with a total of 22 rooms. There is a large elevator.

The triplex takes up the garden level, first floor, and second floor. There are two bedrooms, a home office, and a kitchen on the garden level, as well as the outdoor garden space. A larger kitchen, dining room, and living room are on the floor above, while the master suite and grand living room are on the second floor.

This unit has definitely gotten the most attention over the years as it spans 5,600 square feet and boasts a mirrored living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, hand-painted murals, 24-carat gold paneling and ornamentation, and a marble wood-burning fireplace.

A three-bedroom duplex is on the third and fourth floors. Another three-bedroom duplex is on the fifth and sixth floors.

There’s also a penthouse common area with a lounge, kitchenette, balcony, and roof terrace with Central Park views.

The townhouse last sold in 1991 for just $4 million.
