Susan Wisniewski Landscape’s River House is an Enchanting Hudson Valley Escape
Nestled in the quaint town of Coxsackie, New York is a residential garden oasis with crystal clear views of the Hudson River and magical green landscaping that could very well serve as the backdrop for a children’s fairytale book. The enchanting grounds of the River House were designed by Susan Wisniewski Landscape, who created a natural-looking setting to frame the environmentally friendly Hudson Valley home.
The contemporary home is situated on a 90-acre tract of land and employs modern green technology including geothermal wells and photovoltaic solar panels on the roof. The wood façade is made of tropical hardwoods sourced from Northeast boardwalks. The landscape design also sees the use of organic materials in the timber rocking chairs, stone outdoor kitchen, and slate stairs.
Curving stone paths wind through the grounds and, along with the asymmetrical plantings, are a perfect match to the streamlined architecture of the house. The simple green color scheme of the garden is made up of shrubs, grasses, and trees, and lets the organic design do the talking. It also is sensitive to the natural environment of the site, part of Susan Wisniewski’s design philosophy. She states that her goal is to “combine the local ecology with the aspirations of the client, architectural elements, budgetary considerations, and regional context, creating a response that will resonate with place and people.” Looks like a mission accomplished at the River House! What do you think of this tranquil spot?
