The Cocktail Computer Combines Old School Technology With Great Drink Recipes
Having a stocked bar in your home is one of the many privileges of adulthood, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we know how to make drinks. Thanks to designer Lily Szajnberg, we can take the guess work out of mixing boozy concoctions at home with her Cocktail Computer. Szajnberg, who’s an expert at in-home mixology, has combined her experience finding and executing her favorite cocktails to create this funky kitchen accessory that allows users to search curated drink recipes based on the ingredients they have available.
Designed after early digital computers, the Cocktail Computer uses punch cards to compute simple cocktail recipes generated from 24 easily stocked ingredients. By choosing the ingredients you’d like to be sipping, the recipe cards with your selected ingredients will filter down providing a quality recipes at your finger tips. Sounds fun right?
When first tackling the design of this product, Szajnberg wanted to address two problems she encountered on her own cocktail recipe quests. She found that while her recipe books were reliable in quality, it was difficult to find recipes based on specific ingredients. The opposite was true when hunting for inspiration on the internet where she was able to search for recipes based on ingredients, but had no way of knowing if they were any good.
The computer comes with an initial batch of 100 recipe cards and you can add more as your cocktail skills improve–get one of your own by donating to Szajnberg’s Kickstarter effort. And see more imaginative work from Lily Szajnberg here.
