Visser & Meijwaard’s Brilliant Furniture Zips Open and Closed
Dutch studio Visser & Meijwaard designed a series of furniture pieces that combine a sleek wooden base topped by plastic upholstery with YKK zippers. Easy to wash, bright and bold, the True Colors collection consists of stools, benches, and wardrobes inspired by traditional camping furniture that zip and unzip with the ease of a backpack or your favorite pair of jeans.
Dutch design is famous for its often daring, playful and smart solutions, and Visser & Meijwaard’s True Colors collection clearly follows those rules. Elegant to the bone, the collection is crafted with light oak bases that stand on dark rubber ends. The wooden legs and seat are topped by a durable industrial PVC cloth that’s easy to wash (with a wet cloth) and can be changed very easily.
The typical YKK zipper is used to connect the cushion to the wooden base while adding a fashionable edge to the geometrical piece. The zipper affords the furniture not only a unique technical aesthetic, but also a very important aspect of its design identity.
The bench, stool, dresser and cabinet focus on versatility of color and use, forming an adaptable collection.
