Applications are now being accepted for 118 apartments at a newly constructed affordable rental in the Queens neighborhood of Far Rockaway. Located at 19-15 Nameoke Avenue (also known as 14-14 Central Avenue), the eight-story building incorporates the existing Community Church–the Nazarene into the residential part of the building, which contains 142 total apartments. New Yorkers earning 30, 40, 50, and 60 percent of the area median income can apply for the apartments, which range from $367/month studios to $1,472/month three-bedrooms.
Designed by Magnusson Architecture and Planning, the 270,000-square-foot mixed-use building also contains space for a Pre-K classroom and a laundromat. On the second floor, there are church offices, meeting rooms, and space for youth vocational programs, including a media studio and test kitchen.
Amenities include bike storage, community space, a recreation room, and a landscaped outdoor terrace on the ground floor. There will also be a 43-spot parking garage. The A train at Mott Avenue is just a five-minute walk away, with the Long Island Rail Road train just block from the building.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units at 19-15 Nameoke Avenue until August 21, 2020. Complete details on how to apply are available here (pdf). Preference for 50 percent of the units will be given to residents of Queens Community Board 14. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
