20+ NYC art galleries will open to the public for free as part of annual Chelsea Gallery Walk

For one night next week, more than 20 New York City art galleries will open their doors to the public as part of the annual Chelsea Gallery Walk. Hosted by the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA), the free self-guided walk takes place on July 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 22 member galleries throughout Chelsea, providing a unique opportunity to see world-class art after-hours. In addition to enjoying the latest exhibitions on display, there will also be a selection of special programming.

ADAA consists of approximately 200 member galleries located in 30 cities across the country, with 43 located in the Chelsea neighborhood alone.
Some of the participants in this year’s walk include David Kordansky, Garth Greenan, Jack Shainman, and Sikkema Jenkins & Co. A highlight of the event is Kasmin’s rooftop sculpture garden, which will feature the gallery’s first outdoor exhibition of work by French sculptors Les Lalanne.
The Chelsea Gallery Walk special programming includes the following:
- Nohra Haime Gallery, 7:00 p.m.: Guided walkthrough by Julie Hedrick of her exhibition LIFE; music composed for the exhibition by Peter Wetzler.
- Susan Inglett Gallery, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Serving delicious Korean snacks; artist Woomin Kim will be present.
- David Kordansky Gallery, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Reception with refreshments.
- Yossi Milo Gallery, 7:00 p.m.: Exhibition walkthrough followed by a Q&A; artists Emily Mullin and Daniel Gordon will be present.
- Ricco/Maresca Gallery, 6:00 p.m.: A guided walkthrough led by Phong H. Bui and Cal Mckeever, curators of the exhibition Singing In Unison: Artists Need To Create On The Same Scale That Society Has The Capacity To Destroy (Part 4); followed by a reception with refreshments.
- Nara Roesler, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Reception with refreshments for the gallery’s current exhibition, The Fold in the Horizon curated by Marcos Chaves, and book party for Abraham Palatnik’s new monograph, Enchantment / Experimentation published by Nara Roesler Books. Copies will be available for purchase.
- Mary Ryan Gallery, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: A reception with refreshments.
- Washburn Gallery 6:00-8:00 p.m.: artist JoAnne Carson will be present.
