Playful Moiré Lights Reveal Magical Patterns As They Rotate
Transform your space from stuffy to spectacular with one of these mesmerizing Moiré Lights by designer David Derksen. This artsy yet functional piece takes lighting to a new level by using perforated discs to create a lamp that projects moving patterns as it rotates and glows. As you may have guessed by the name, the hypnotic visage of each lamp is inspired by the Moiré effect.
Derksen’s lamps draw from the Moiré effect, a natural visual phenomenon that’s created when a set of lines or dots is superimposed on another set of lines or dots that have been slightly offset, whether by size, angle, or distance.
On each lamp the front perforated disc doesn’t move, but an identical second disc behind it can be rotated using a tab. As a user spins the disc, the panels create shifting patterns that are backlit by LEDs.
The lamps also give off a soft glow, making for great evening lighting. Sections can also be custom-designed upon request and come in a variety of metals like brass, copper, or stainless steel.
