Sander Mulder’s Ghostly Josephine Lamp Glows With Its Whole Body
Less is more for just about everything when it comes to cramped NYC apartments; the notable exception, of course, being light. So here’s a brilliant design that strikes a perfect balance between being hidden but also visually arresting when it needs to be. Sander Mulder‘s Josephine Lamp is a standing luminaire that takes on an almost ghostly form, only becoming apparent when one switches its on-off button.
Dutch designer Sander Mulder believes that all designs can be reinvented to afford users new creative experiences, and his floor lamp certainly embodies that concept.
Crafted from transparent plastic, Josephine stands as a modern interpretation of a classic lamp. While the shape is familiar, the intricate luminaire was produced using modern technologies. The lamp’s 16 profiles where cut with a CNC machine and fitted together in a circular structure.
Customers can customize the color of the design with one of eight filters, which include red, green, blue, yellow, pink, purple, orange and ocher. The “shade” can also be ordered without the engraving seen above.
