3D-Printed Vase Exteriors Give New Life to Used Plastic Bottles
Milan-based designer Libero Rutilo has developed a way to transform used plastic bottles into stylish and functional home decor. Using 3D printing technology, Rutilo’s series of four vases focuses only on the objects’ exterior shell, leaving the heavy lifting, or water holding in this instance, to the up-cycled plastic vessels.
The idea was to focus on the outside silhouette while also retro-fitting the interior to work seamlessly with the standard plastic bottle sizes. The vase collection features four different design options each with their own appeal and personality.
The “Spider Vase,” is the most organic in form, featuring a biomorphic pattern.
The second design is called the “Sinuous Vase” and is made up of a fluid curvilinear lines.
The collection also includes the “Lace Vase” with a crochet-inspired pattern giving it a more classical look.
And finally the “Knitted Vase” is named appropriately after its fine fiber-like appearance.
