BONCHO: A Bike Poncho to Keep Your Legs and Feet Dry
The weather in New York can vary from sunny skies to downpours without notice, and most of us spend at least part, if not all, of our daily commute outside at the mercy of the elements. While the standard umbrella protects us from the rain when we’re on foot, the bike riding community has continued to rely on plastic bags and oversized raincoats to stay dry, leaving their legs and feet exposed to the conditions. Thanks to VANMOOF and their new bike poncho design, cleverly named BONCHO, city cyclists are about to get a lot drier.
Unlike a basic poncho or standard rain coat, BONCHO has an extended structure that goes over your handlebars to cover your legs and feet.
When your BONCHO isn’t helping you stay dry, it easily folds down into a small, thin package that fits inside almost every bag. BONCHO is also open on the bottom to help the body stay cool, despite the humid and often sweaty conditions created when rain and exercise are combined.
VANMOOF was founded in 2009 in Amsterdam by brothers Taco and Ties Carlier with the goal of creating the world’s best bikes for city commuting. In doing so, they plan to strip out the unnecessary parts, improve the essentials, and develop new technology to, in their own words, “stick it to bike thieves.”
To jumpstart the BONCHO production process, the company is currently raising money via Kickstarter, where they’ve already received $89,323, far surpassing their $16,298 goal.
