Applications are now being accepted for 85 affordable units at a new residential development in the Bronx. Located at 1544 Shakespeare Avenue in Morris Heights, St. Francis Commons offers residents brand-new apartments and a variety of amenities. Qualifying New Yorkers earning 30, 50, and 70 of the area median income, or between $21,155 for a single person annually and $122,570 for a household of seven, are eligible to apply for the apartments, which range from $532/month one-bedrooms to $2,188/month three bedrooms.
Developed by Highbridge Community Development Corporation and designed by SLCE Architects, the seven-story, 95,455-square-foot building is located on the former site of Saint Francis of Assisi Church, according to the project page.
The building’s amenities include broadband internet, 24-hour security cameras with video monitoring, a shared laundry room, community room, recreation room, ground-floor retail space, and an outdoor landscaped passive recreation space. Apartments come equipped with large windows, spacious closets, air conditioning unit sleeves, white quartz countertops, white subway-tile backsplashes, sparkling white appliances, and dark cabinetry and flooring.
Nearby public transit options include the 4, B, and D subway lines as well as the Bx11, Bx18B, and Bx35 buses.
Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the apartments until September 6, 2023. Preference for 50 percent of the units will be given to residents of Bronx Community Board 5.
