POLL: Are You Pro or Anti Santacon?
We know it’s a loaded question, but after all these years of holiday debauchery, the debate surrounding Santacon rages on. The founder of the event recently contacted Gothamist, requesting an interview to set the record straight. He said the press is failing to focus on the notorious event’s “more important messages of anti-consumerism, creativity, jolly gay apparel” and that the point is not about alcohol, but rather “to have a nonsensical get-together for public street theater, for making New York exciting and weird.” Local elected officials and residents who live near the bar crawl spots feel differently, though, citing public urination, sexual exposure, and overall chaos as part of the issue. Since Santacon will take to the streets this Saturday, we want to know your thoughts.
