Wieland Vogel’s Chandelier Expands From 20 to 80 Inches in the Blink of an Eye
In a city where hundreds of interesting happenings occur each week, some days, you just want to make magic happen from the comfort of your own home. If you live alone, or just happen to hold an impromptu party once in a while, have a look at this incredible expanding design. Created by Dutch designer Wieland Vogel, “Aureool a.k.a Halo” is a brilliant chandelier that contracts and expands with a simple flick of the hand.
Wieland Vogel is a graduate of the prestigious Design Academy of Eindhoven. Aureool a.k.a Halo was his graduation project; it was quickly acquired for production by Dutch Trend hunter Li Edelkoort, the academy’s director. Having previously worked for renowned designers such as Piet Hein Eek and Maarten Baas, Wieland has recently set up his own studio in a beautiful old monastery where he crafts unusual furniture and lights.
The expanding “Halo” stands for honesty, a theme Wieland places at the core of his work. Through this chandelier, the creator places attention on the beauty of the structure which can expand from 20 to 80 inches to create lighting for many or just one. The chandelier is constructed mostly of plastic parts and sewing machine lights.
