Angelina Jolie’s Mid-Century Modern Childhood Home Is for Sale
Yes, there’s A-list star cred here, but really, the pitched gabled roof is more than enough to convince us to take out a mortgage for this mid-century modern gem just 20 miles out of Manhattan. According to the WSJ, the Rockland Country home where Angelina Jolie spent her formative years has just hit the market for $2.049 million. Measuring a sprawling 4,088 square feet, it features three bedrooms, a dramatic pitched roof, exposed roof beams, and two very lush acres within the hamlet of Snedens Landing. Given that hubby Brad Pitt is quite the modern architecture enthusiast himself, could this not be a wonderful investment for the Jolie-Pitt brood?
According to the listing, the home, dubbed “The Whitney House,” offers tons of natural light thanks to the ample use of glass in its gables and a massive skylight. Tall stone walls define a great room with 30-foot-ceilings while also providing privacy to the interiors. The entryway has been laid in brick, also framed with an asymmetrical design that beautifully mimics the layout within.
The home was originally constructed in 1959, and Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, purchased it in the ’80s after divorcing Jolie’s father, Jon Voight. The A-lister herself lived there until high school, at which point she left for Los Angeles. The current owner is conductor and house flipper Eugene Kohn, who spent $1.2 million bringing the structure back to its original glory after purchasing it less than one year ago. Some of Kohn’s updates include the restoration of period railings on the second floor, new appliances and mechanicals, and removing the paint from the redwood paneling and pine ceiling. “My style is to simplify and restore to the original condition,” he told the Journal.
