Clément Brazille Reinvents the Iconic Bertoia Chair with Comfortable Knitted Upholstery
Sometime ago we showed you a high-tech redesign of the iconic Eames sofa made from lightweight carbon fiber. This time we’ve got another classic redesigned; Harry Bertoia’s beloved Wire Chair reinterpreted with a new, knitted skin. Customized with corduroy, linen, cashmere wool and cotton strips, French designer Clément Brazille’s vision adds texture to the iconic seat.
Brazille’s redesign is called the “Bertoia Loom Chair” and it uses the 1952 Wire’s metallic mesh as a canvas for weaving new materials through. But his Bertoia hack isn’t just a matter of admiration or aesthetics. Rather, it brings a new comfort to the old classic.
Brazille explians, “Like a loom, [I] dress each chair with noble fabric making them unique and customizable pieces. Weaving also quickly shows its benefits. Once weaved the chairs become very comfortable and invite us to sit.” The designer has also extended the collection to include Bertoia’s Diamond Chair.
