New program offers artists chance to live and work at glamping resort on Governors Island for free

NYC Culture Club and glamping resort Collective Retreats are offering a select number of artists the chance to live and work on Governors Island for free. Under the new artist residency program, six slots are available in 2022, with month-long residencies running from May to October, as first reported by Time Out New York. Preference will be given to artists from outside of the city, but all are welcome to apply.
The residency includes lodging and on-site meals. Artists will also be given a $1,000 stipend for materials and expenses, according to NYC Culture Club.
Those interested in applying for the residency can submit proposals explaining how they would use the unique qualities of Governors Island in their art. Artists are also encouraged by the Culture Club to take advantage of the Collective Retreats community and present stage performances and other installations while in residence on the island. Their art will be on view for visitors of both Collective Retreats and Governors Island.

Collective Retreats, which opened in New York in 2019, offers guests a luxurious, camp-like experience just a few minutes from Lower Manhattan. Activities include private boats for tours of the island, scavenger hunts, lawn games, dance classes, crafting, yoga, and meditation. Menu offerings include a mix of seafood, brunch options, picnic snacks, s’mores, and more. Guest accommodations include large, Summit tents with a private en-suite bathroom and deck.
Governors Island is now open year-round, along with expanded ferry access. The QC Terme Spas & Resorts day spa opened its lavish doors to the public early last month within three historic buildings.
