Target next month will open a new location in one of the busiest pedestrian blocks in the city. The company’s 92nd store in the greater New York City area opens in Times Square on Monday, April 3, bringing a 33,000-square-foot location to 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. Fitting in with its neon neighbors, the exterior of the new store features an illuminated sign of the company mascot Bullseye.
The Times Square Target is a “small-format” store, meaning considerably less square footage than traditional stores. The company has opened these smaller-sized locations in urban areas and near college campuses, as 6sqft previously reported.
Located within Tishman Realty’s E*Walk complex, which opened in 1999 as part of the revitalization of 42nd Street, the new Times Square store will join the flagship cinema of Regal Entertainment and a new location of the discount store Five Below.
According to the company, the Times Square store will offer a CVS pharmacy, grab-and-go food options, and contactless grocery pickup.
“We’re excited to bring the joy of Target to new guests and help them discover a unique shopping experience tailored to the needs of our community in the heart of New York City,” Dan Rivera, store director of the new Times Square Target store.
Since opening its first store in New York City in 1997, Target has expanded its footprint to all five boroughs and surrounding suburbs. According to the company, its 92 stores in the area employ nearly 21,000 people.
