NYC’s first ‘flying theater’ RiseNY opens in Times Square

Starting Wednesday, visitors will be able to soar through the sky on an aerial tour of New York City in a flying theater. Located at 160 West 45th Street, RiseNY is a state-of-the-art virtual experience created and produced by Running Subway that takes participants on an exhilarating journey of the city skyline and cultural landmarks. The experience is a three-part journey starting with a film narrated by Jeff Goldblum, taking guests through the recreation of NYC’s first subway station and delving into the city’s global impact.
The experience is accompanied by a series of exhibit galleries that showcase different items, people, and events that have shaped the history of the city. Items include Ringo Starr’s drumhead from The Beatles 1964 tour and Madonna’s hand-painted Keith Haring jacket.
The main attraction of RiseNY is its multi-sensory flying theater that takes guests on a soaring journey of NYC. The 180-degree, 40-foot projection dome features 8K aerial footage and simulates the feeling of flight with participants suspended 30 feet in the air.
The 46-seat ride dips and turns while simulating wind and different scents meant to provide an authentic experience. The ride is accompanied by a soundtrack featuring NYC-themed songs like Taylor Swift’s “Welcome to New York” and Frank Sinatra’s “Theme From New York”.

“RiseNY will help remind New Yorkers why they love NYC, and will, hopefully, delight, and inspire all visitors as they journey through some of the city’s most iconic sites and moments. We are proud to partner with world-class museums, award-winning filmmakers and respected artists to celebrate our culturally rich, vibrant and resilient city.”
On display is a late-night show set where guests can interview each other and take pictures, and a black and white recreation of “The Honeymooners” kitchen. Other items on display include costumes from a variety of Broadway shows including “Hamilton,” “Alladin,” and “The Lion King,” as well as models of iconic city skyscrapers.
RiseNY is open every day except Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets start at $24 per person, with special pricing available for children under the age of 12, senior citizens, students, and veterans.
