Starry Night Pendant Lamp Turns Any Room into a Personal Planetarium
One thing we don’t see much of here in New York City are starry nights. Unfortunately, this leaves some city-dwellers nostalgic for their star-gazing, universe-pondering suburban youth. While it’s unlikely that any skyscrapers will be moving to make room for a better view, Starry Light, a constellation lamp collection from Anagraphic, is a star-studded substitute worthy of praise.
Born from the collaboration between graphic designer Anna Farkas and interior designer Miklós Batisz, the design for this pendant lamp was inspired by Farkus’s original idea to create a lampshade as an art piece that reflects the sky.
Each shade is handcrafted and come in a variety of colors and wattages. The pendent’s hemispheric shaped dome is punctured by hundreds of tiny holes intentionally placed to emulate the night sky and celestial constellations in four options that include the Northern Hemisphere’s two equinoxes and solstices.
The shades are outfitted with a custom LED light source that emits streams of light varying in strength upwards and downwards creating both a direct light source as well as a mini planetarium in your kitchen, dinning room or bedroom. The intensity of light can be adjusted using a small remote allowing the user to easily switch between romantic mood lighting and a full on night sky.
Thin lines are drawn on the interior of the shade to help users identify different constellations.
