Nobu, A Transforming Desk-Shelf Inspired by Vintage Carrycases
For many living in New York City, or other densely populated communities, space is considered a treasured resource not to be squandered. In these situations efficiency is key, which is why we welcome with open arms Nubo, the 2.0 version of the traditional wall shelf. This bubble shaped shelf transforms from a utilitarian wall shelf or desk, into a treasure-box-bulletin-board—reminiscent of a vintage travel case, like the blue Pan-Am case of the 1960s. The Nobu was designed by the Italian-Danish duo known as GamFratesi, and first presented at imm Cologne.
The simple and elegant design makes it easy to set up shop without adding obtrusive clutter to your otherwise peaceful living space. When open, the shelf measures an efficient 5 1/2” – 14 cm depth and provides a functional work-space perfectly sized for a lap-top and equipped with the basic necessities including a cable pass-through and a bracket to store important documents. The shelf is held in place by two sleek stainless steel supports and closed with a magnetic catch. When the unit is closed, the Nobu displays a cushioned pin board transforming its underbelly into a useful place for pictures, notes and more.
Segregating work and home can be challenging at times, and for some almost impossible. While it might not be realistic to aim for complete separation the Nobu offers a practical solution to help you find the best of both worlds at your discretion.
