Built by Women NYC Is Accepting Nominations for Outstanding Female-Led Design
Since we all have feminism on the mind thanks to Emma Watson’s empowering speech at the UN yesterday, we thought it was perfect timing to highlight the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation‘s competition, Built by Women New York City (BxW NYC).
Nominations are currently being accepted through October 31st for “outstanding structures and built environments in New York City, either contemporary or historic, designed and/or constructed by women.”
Using grants from the New York Building Foundation and the New York Council for the Humanities, the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation will identify 100 winning projects based on the criteria that “the structure or built environment must have a woman who was directly responsible for leading the design(architecture, engineering, or landscape) or who led the construction, either from the development or construction management team.” The project must have been completed in or broken ground in New York City.
Andrew Dolkart, Director of the Historic Preservation Program and Professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University, is advising the competition, and the jurors include:

Winners will be announced at the end of November, which will be followed by walking tours, interactive maps, and other educational materials and events developed to highlight women’s contributions to the built environments.
