Torafu Architects’ Dice Furniture Goes from a Stool to a Shelf with Just One Roll
If you’ve ever lived in a small space before you know the importance of having pieces that can multitask– ottomans that work as both coffee tables and seating, couches that fold into beds, or counters that serve as dining tables and desks.
The latest clever hybrid comes from Torafu Architects. Their Dice Furniture collection is designed to accommodate all ages, from toddler to adult, and can be used in three different ways depending on which side it is rested.
The first mode of the Dice is a desk for youngsters. When sitting in the built-in chair, the tiny tot is situated within an intimate space, like a small room. The next turn leaves a wide, fan-shaped surface on top, creating an adult-friendly stool. Side shelf is the piece’s final incarnation. Two levels bisected by dividers provide plenty of room for books or tchotchkes.
Dice is characterized by rounded shapes, with different colors or finishes applied on each of its surfaces. The edge of the furniture is clad in colorful, protective rubber accents. Though it exudes a cheerful gentleness appropriate for children, Dice also boasts a structural geometry that would look right at home in even the most mature designs.
