A housing lottery opened this week for 205 moderate-income units in a new residential building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Developed by Halcyon Management Group, 23 West Street is a 14-story residential building that sits within the Calyer Place development project currently under construction on the Brooklyn waterfront. New Yorkers earning 80 percent of the area median income are eligible to apply for the apartments, which range from $1,528/month studios to $1,955/month for two bedrooms.

The $500 million Cayler Place development consists of four buildings with 700 apartments. The nearly one-million-square-foot development is on the site of the former Greenpoint Terminal Market, which was demolished after a massive fire in 2006.

Designed by Cooper Robertson & Partners with SLCE Architects, the building’s apartments feature contemporary designs with incredible views of the surrounding water and city and open kitchens with state-of-the-art stainless appliances. Amenities include an on-site parking garage, recreation room, bike storage lockers, and card-operated laundry room.

The building is in close proximity to public transportation, situated close to the B32 and B24 buses and a few blocks from the G train, accessible at the Nassau Avenue and Greenpoint Avenue subway stations.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until March 31, 2022. Fifty percent of units are set aside for members of Brooklyn Community Board 1. Five percent of the units are designated for residents with mobility impairments and two percent for those with hearing and visual impairments.

Full details on how to apply can be found here. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
