Citi Bike docks installed at Citi Field ahead of Mets home opener

Baseball fans can now ride Citi Bikes to Citi Field, just in time for the start of the 2024 season. The New York Mets, Citi Bike, and Lyft on Thursday unveiled new docking stations at Citi Field, offering another way to travel to a ball game. The stadium will feature 66 docks, about half of which are near the main entrance near the homerun apple and another half next to the intersection of Shea Road and Boat Basin Place.
The bikes are outfitted with special branding featuring the Mets logo and Mr. and Mrs. Met. As riders take the bikes to and from the stadium, they will be integrated into the rest of the city’s Citi Bike system, according to WCBS 880.
Lyft anticipates a large number of fans riding bikes to the stadium, so there will be drivers on-site to pick up any extra bikes that can’t be placed in a docking station, according to AMNY.
“From so many different Queens neighborhoods, we can now hop on a Citi Bike and leave our cars at home, bring our families and get here safely—I am beyond excited,” Jim Burke, co-founder of the 34th Ave Open Streets Coalition, said at Thursday’s unveiling ceremony, as reported by WCBS 880.
The new transportation option is installed ahead of the Mets home opener on March 28 at 1:10 p.m. against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Cyclists can get to the stadium via the 34th Avenue bike lane. Parking for personal bikes can be found near the rotunda.
Citi Bike access would also make it easier for riders to travel to Mets owner Steve Cohen’s $8 billion proposed “Metropolitan Park” complex, which if approved, would bring a sprawling sports and entertainment complex with a Hard Rock-run casino to a 50-acre space adjacent to Citi Field.
