Target has expanded its New York City footprint once again. A new store opened on the Upper East Side this week a year after the company announced the new Manhattan location. Located at 150 East 86th Street, the 55,000-square-foot store is Target’s 12th store in the borough and its 11th “small-format” location, which offers convenient on-the-go options and pick-up service.
Last summer, Target signed a 20-year lease for space at Vornado Realty Trust’s building on 86th Street and Lexington Avenue. The new location replaces a Barnes & Noble store, which left the spot because the location was “too large and too expensive” as the bookseller told Patch at the time.
The East 86th Street Target is selling apparel, home decor, health and beauty products, a selection of groceries including grab-and-go items, and adult beverages. Plus, there will be a CVS Pharmacy and an area for same-day pickup, which could include groceries.
Since opening their first store in 1997, Target now has 91 stores in the greater New York City area. Several new Target locations are planned for the city, including the Upper West Side, Long Island City, Harlem, Washington Heights, Times Square, Union Square, Gravesend, Prospect Park South, East Flatbush, Astoria, Jackson Heights, and Jamaica.
The grand opening for this new location is taking place on Sunday, October 24. It will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
