Throughout June, commuters riding NYC buses, subways, and commuter rail will be greeted with Pride messaging and information, including limited-edition 2023 posters, new inclusive train decals, and commemorative MetroCards available at select stations.
The posters are available for purchase at the New York Transit Museum and online.
“The MTA is committed to delivering the message of equality and love in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month to riders and we’re proud to make that heard loud and clear across the metropolitan area,” Shanifah Rieara, MTA Acting Chief Customer Officer, said.
“Customers across the MTA’s entire operating region will be able to celebrate all month long and feel welcome in public transit no matter where they live through signage, decals, posters, public events and so much more.”
As part of the MTA’s initiative, 50 subway cars along the 1, A, L, and 7 lines, 50 Metro-North cars, 50 Long Island Rail Road cars, and 50 Bridges and Tunnels maintenance cars have been decorated with special Pride decals.

Digital screens throughout subway cars, buses, and subway stations will display 15-second videos celebrating Pride Month. LIRR riders will also see 2023 Pride graphics on the digital display screens in Moynihan Train Hall.
The MTA will distribute 50,000 Pride-themed MetroCards at six subway stations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, including:
- West 4th Street – Washington Square
- 59th Street – Columbus Circle
- Grand Street
- 74th – Broadway/ Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue
- 125th Street
- Christopher Street – Sheridan Square
The MTA began celebrating Pride Month in 2019 when they first rolled out rainbow-themed MetroCards and train decals. The festivities commemorated not only World Pride being hosted in NYC that year but also the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
In 2019, the transit system debuted “Pride Express,” an employee resource group dedicated to supporting the MTA’s LGBTQ+ workforce. The program has since expanded to be an agency-wide initiative that is open to all employees across all MTA agencies.
