After getting canceled last year, Smithsonian Magazine has scheduled its 17th annual Museum Day for Saturday, September 18, and this year, there are 10 New York City museums participating. As part of the celebration, museums and cultural institutions across the country (more than 1,000, to be exact!) provide free entry to anyone who has a Museum Day ticket.

This year’s Museum Day is sponsored by Quaker Oats. The theme is “Experience America,” which encourages people to get back out there after last year’s cancellation. In an interview with USA Today, Amy Wilkins, chief revenue officer at Smithsonian Media, said, “Museum Day represents a national commitment to access, equity and inclusion and after a rough year and a half, we’re excited for museums to open their doors and offer these educational and cultural experiences to the public for free…”

A Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people to participating locations on Saturday, September 18. All you have to do is download a ticket online. You can search the full national list of participants here >>
