Located at 69 East 233rd Street, right across from Woodlawn Cemetery and adjacent to Van Cortlandt Park, this senior-housing building has just launched an affordable housing lottery for 55 apartments. Available to New Yorkers aged 62+ earning 50 percent of the area median income and who qualify for Section 8 benefits, the studios and one-bedrooms will cost 30 percent of one’s income. In addition to its proximity to ample outdoor space, the building features green infrastructure and its own outdoor gardening spaces.

Known as Woodlawn Senior Living, the 80-unit building is close to the 2 and 5 trains at 233rd Street, as well as a Metro-North stop on the Harlem line. There is free parking (via another lottery), a shared laundry room, and storage space.

It was developed by RiseBoro Community Partnership. According to the New York Housing Conference, the building was built to Passive House standards including “green infrastructure and water conservation; energy recovery ventilation; minimized thermal bridges; solar paneling; high-performance windows; gardening spaces; high albedo surfaces; all designed to make holistic living tech-integrated and more accessible.”

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units until October 27, 2021. Complete details on how to apply are available here. Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.

If you don’t qualify for the housing lotteries mentioned, visit CityRealty.com’s no-fee rentals page for other apartment deals in the city.
