For $2,500, you can get married at Katz’s Deli (pastrami platter included)
Nothing says love like… pastrami? Lower East Side institution Katz’s Deli has teamed up with Williamsburg wedding chapel Sweet Hearts to offer couples the chance to get hitched inside the 133-year-old restaurant, as was first reported by Time Out NY. Those interested can reserve a 75-minute spot on August 28th, which allows a couple to bring up to six guests. The $2,500 package includes an officiant and witness, photos by the Edward Winter Photography team, and, of course, party platters of Katz’s legendary hand-carved pastrami and corned beef.
Sweet Hearts was started by Julie Guinta, founder of wedding and event planning company Little Sister Creative. She launched Sweet Hearts as a “Vega-style” wedding chapel in Williamsburg during the pandemic to serve as an “easy, mega-affordable option” for her clients. In May, she explained to the Times, “Before Covid, I noticed that the wedding industry bubble was about to pop. Because of Pinterest, because of people seeing insane, over-the-top things, I had this feeling like ‘What’s next? Are we going to start chartering private jets, and the private jet is wearing a flower crown?’ I really felt for those couples that said, and not even on a monetary basis, ‘This just isn’t for me.'”
Couples who get married at her Brooklyn location, which is just off the Lorimer Street L train station, are able to enjoy a custom heart backdrop. Pricing starts at $650 for a one-hour ceremony with up to 10 guests. A photography package can be added for a total of $1,150.
For the special Katz’s pop-up, Sweet Hearts is bringing their heart backdrop, but of course, there are many other fun options for photos (do we need to remind you of that scene from When Harry Met Sally?). Couples will also receive a “honeymoon-in-a-bag” with Sweet Hearts and Katz’s swag.
The overall goal of Sweet Hearts is to offer “a safe, inclusive location for anyone wanting to confess their admiration.” In an interview with Time Out, Julie Guinta said, “What we hope to achieve with these pop-ups is to allow couples affordable access to get hitched in iconic New York City locations that normally wouldn’t be made available to them. Where better to start than at Katz’s Deli? It has all of the energy, sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that make this the greatest city in the world.”
