With approval from an advisory committee to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday, the Pfizer vaccine is now available for children ages 12 to 15. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has authorized all New York providers to open eligibility for the vaccine to this age group. In New York City, there are over 200 sites offering Pfizer, the only vaccine approved for those aged 12 to 17, including at dozens of pharmacies across the five boroughs and some state-run sites.
“The vaccine allows us all to live our lives, to head to the beach, to go to summer camps or hang out with friends while staying safe,” NYC Health Commissioner Dave Chokshi said during a press briefing on Wednesday. “So, as a parent, and as the City’s doctor, I urge you to make an appointment.”
Note that a parent or guardian must provide consent for their child to receive the COVID vaccine. Consent can be given in person at the time of vaccination or by phone. All city-run sites accept proof of consent in writing.
Use the city’s Vaccine Finder here to find a Pfizer appointment near you or by calling 1-877-VAX-4-NYC. There are currently over 50 city sites offering the Pfizer vaccine to New Yorkers with an appointment.

“Children under the age of 18 now account for more than 20 percent of new cases in this country, and vaccine authorization for a younger population will allow the state to continue its tremendous progress towards winning the war against COVID,” Cuomo said in a statement.
On Monday, the state’s Department of Health ditched the work or residency requirement to previously needed to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, allowing any U.S. resident who is eligible for the vaccine to be vaccinated in New York. The policy change will help Mayor Bill de Blasio with his plan to set up mobile vaccination hubs at popular tourist destinations, like Central Park and Times Square, to vaccinate city visitors.
