Every year, New York City-based architecture firms face off in a spirited pumpkin carving competition in quest of the PritzkerPumpkin prize. This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions on gatherings, Pumpkitecture will take place virtually. And the contest won’t be limited to just architects and designers, but anyone with an “eerie eye for design” can enter.

Pumpkitecture participants can submit designs as a firm, team, or as individuals. A real “flesh-and-seed pumpkin” must be used, with multiple pumpkins allowed in one design.
Carvers will submit a maximum of five images, with the option to include a video that will show off the pumpkin’s design. Participants have until Thursday, October 29 to submit designs. A jury will announce winners on Saturday, October 31 on Archtober’s Instagram.
Archtober kicked off earlier this month, offering hundreds of architect-led building tours, lectures by design experts, and exploration of lesser-known wonders of New York’s built environment. This year’s month-long festival includes virtual talks, self-led activities, and socially-distanced in-person events because of COVID-19.
