Lower East Side’s glassy new condo 150 Rivington has a rooftop with a fireplace and city views

Once an enclave for immigrants and the working class, and later a haven for artists, the Lower East Side’s evolution continues into the 21st century as a destination for luxury developments. While major projects like the Essex Crossing mega-development and One Manhattan Square have hogged the spotlight, more modest new buildings are also making their mark on the neighborhood, including 150 Rivington. The approachable seven-story apartment building boasts a modern glassy facade, contains 45 condo units, and a cozy landscaped rooftop with an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, and endless city views.

Developed by Cogswell Realty and Gluck+, the condo project replaced Streit’s Matzo Factory, which operated at the site for nearly 90 years before being demolished in 2015. Although Streit’s moved its operations upstate to Orangeburg, New York, photos of the former factory hang in the lobby of 150 Rivington, a nod at the site’s storied industrial history.
The condo tower’s design and architecture were handled by Gluck+ and features a facade with alternating glass and opaque panels, which aim to offer privacy and also mirror the playfulness of the neighborhood, according to the architects.

Surrounded by low-slung buildings, 150 Rivington residences receive lots of natural lights through oversized windows and have sweeping city views. Interiors feature unique translucent sliding doors that allow for a flexible living space. Oak flooring, light gray cabinets, and Caesarstone countertops help the space exude warmth.

Some of the 45 units in the building, including the four penthouses, offer private outdoor space. But all residents can enjoy the landscaped rooftop terrace, which features an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, and a sun deck for yoga. Other perks include a 24-hour attended lobby, fitness center, bike storage, and individual storage for an extra fee.
And while the neighborhood has changed over the years, the Lower East Side has maintained its cool factor, offering one of the best culinary and cultural destinations in the city.
Current availabilities at the condo building, which is 80 percent sold, range from a $1.575 million two-bedroom, two-bath to a $2.65 million three-bedroom, two and a half bath.
