Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the creation of an advisory board of business professionals and community leaders to guide the state’s reopening strategy. The 100-person “New York Forward Re-Opening Advisory Board” includes members from a mix of industries, including a number of real estate leaders and developers. The board is part of a 12-point plan to reopen the state on a region-by-region basis.

Among the group of advisors is about nine people from industries related to real estate, hotels, housing, and construction, across the state. These include:

The board also includes owners of New York sports teams, including Knicks and Rangers owner James Dolan, Yankee President Randy Levine, New York Mets’ President Jeff Wilpon, Islanders owner Jon Ledecky, and Bills and Sabres owner Kim Pegula.

Other notable members of the board, which is being chaired by former secretaries to the governor Steve Cohen and Bill Mulrow, include Danny Meyer of Union Square Hospitality Group, a handful of billionaires (including Jonathan Gray of Blackstone and Rob Sands of Constellation Brands), college presidents, and leaders in the health and pharmaceutical fields.

On Tuesday, Cuomo said each region in the state will need to show a 14-day decline in coronavirus cases and ensure hospital capacity is less than 70 percent.

“We have to be smart about this – emotions can’t drive our re-opening process – and we’ve come up with factual data points that each region must monitor as they begin to re-open,” Cuomo said.

“We’ve also created a New York Forward Re-Opening Advisory Board made up of business, academic, community and civic leaders from across the state to help guide this process and ensure businesses are following the necessary guidelines to preserve public health as we work towards a new normal.”
