The Empire State Building’s new light shows honor essential workers and first responders

After kicking off on Saturday, the Empire State Building will continue to put on nightly light shows in honor of specific first responders and essential workers. The landmark began its #HEROESSHINEBRIGHT series by paying tribute to the FNDY and EMS on Friday, doctors, nurses, and the medical community on Saturday, and correction officers on Sunday. Tonight, watch the building blink orange, blue, and white in honor of the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as blue and gold in honor of the U.S. Navy.

Here is the full #HEROESSHINEBRIGHT schedule:
- Friday, April 24: Yellow, white, and blue and siren honoring FDNY/EMS
- Saturday, April 25: Blue and white honoring doctors, nurses, and medical staff
- Sunday, April 26: Blue and orange honoring corrections officers
- Monday, April 27: Split lights– north & south: Orange, blue, and white honoring the U.S. Coast Guard; east & west: Blue and gold honoring the U.S. Navy
- Tuesday, April 28: Yellow, black, and white honoring the US Army
- Wednesday, April 29: Blue honoring the Metropolitan Transportation Authority
- Thursday, April 30: Yellow honoring all essential workers
- Friday, May 1: Blue and purple in honor of Police Memorial Day
- Saturday, May 2: Dynamic heartbeat lighting honoring ALL first responders worldwide
The culminating event on May 2 is in coordination with the World Federation of GreatTowers. From 8:30 to 9:30pm, towers around the world such as UAE’s Burj Khalifa, Canada’s CN Tower, China’s Macau Tower, Chicago’s Willis Tower, Russia’s Ostankino Tower, the Eiffel Tower, and more will shine their lights in a red heartbeat.

She shines her lights to show First Responders and essential workers our appreciation, love, and support, which they deserve,” said Anthony E. Malkin, Chairman and CEO of Empire State Realty Trust. “Our tribute to the heroes on the front lines of our great city, one group at a time, will culminate with a worldwide show of support as the World Federation of Great Towers showers universal light to spotlight the contributions of First Responders around the world.”
Last month, Empire State Realty Trust launched a weekly music-to-light show in partnership with iHeartMedia as a way to lift New Yorkers’ spirits. The first show kicked off on March with “Empire State of Mind” by Alicia Keys. That light show continues to play every night at 9pm. The #HEROESSHINEBRIGHT light shows will play at the top of every hour, ending with the Beatles music-to-light show at midnight.
